lol its funny 2 me that in almost every anime series they never show like serious love relationships or developing relationships… i mean for example asuma n kurenai….. they only show them together most of the time n later on we get to see n know that kurenai its pregnant with asuma child… but they never show them kissing or holding hands or whatever…. the same with goku n chichi in dragonball…. they just show goku n chichi already with a child name gohan n goten… same with vegeta n bulma (trunks)….. kenshin n kaoru n etc etc etc sooo on??????

i think the series is still going to follow the manga with important events like sasuke fighting itachi but ultimately its going to do its own thing.

and plus this is also prob the part when they were also concentrating on the movie, and didnt really want to get too involved with the story line in case they screw it up.
